We are looking for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Risk Management. This position is located in the Insurance Science discipline within the Business Studies Unit of the Faculty of Management and Business.

We see risk management as a broad, interdisciplinary and strategically significant organizational practice, not merely a compliance or control function. In conditions of deep uncertainty, firms must continuously renew their competitive advantage, making risk management a core strategic capability. Business growth and value creation are increasingly unfolding in networks and ecosystems, demanding new competencies in collaborative risk governance and risk-sharing models. The professorship approaches risk management in this expansive sense — as a central enabler of firm-level value creation and growth — and is embedded within the Insurance and Risk Management study track. We value broad competence in risk management rather than a narrowly defined specialization. The selected candidate is expected to develop a research and teaching profile that connects strategic risk management theory with contemporary business challenges, including digitalisation, AI-driven decision-making and climate change adaptation. The research and teaching activities of the selected candidate should address relevant aspects of this focal area.

Relevant domains include (but are not limited to):

  • Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Strategic Risk Management (SRM) — including risk identification, assessment and governance across organisational levels, and risk management as part of corporate planning, value creation and growth.
  • Risk in the age of AI and digitalisation — modern risk modelling methods, responsible use of AI in uncertainty quantification, and risk management challenges in data-driven and algorithmically mediated environments.
  • Resilience and behavioural dimensions — uncertainty management, resilience-building capabilities, risk leadership and culture, and behavioural perspectives on preventive risk management.
  • Networked and collaborative risk governance — risk management in data-driven, digitalised, volatile, networked and collaborative operating environments, including risk-sharing models.

We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background — or clear potential — in enterprise and strategic risk management, to advance traditional risk management by addressing uncertainty, complexity, and value creation. In addition to enterprise risk management and strategic risk management, suitable disciplinary backgrounds include business fields such as strategic management or marketing; engineering fields such as industrial engineering or knowledge management; or interdisciplinary fields such as futures studies.

The Business Studies Unit at Tampere University is a vibrant and collegial community of approximately 100 academic staff, educating around 350 business graduates annually across management and organisation, accounting, marketing, economics, insurance and risk management, and business and tax law. Our mission is to educate broad-minded business professionals with competencies valued in the evolving society, pursuing scholarship that combines academic excellence with societal relevance. We are ambitious academics who combine disciplinary depth with a genuine commitment to collaborative development, actively building our research and teaching profile toward the 2030s.

Insurance and Risk Management Research Group focuses on topics relevant to the insurance industry as well as risk management themes across industries. The research themes are often cross-disciplinary and multi-method, spanning the perspectives of individuals, organisations, and society. Key research themes related to risk management include decision-making under uncertainty and behavioural and strategic approaches to understanding risk.

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished academic who will:

  • pursue and lead high-quality scientific research in the field of risk management
  • develop the field of risk management as part of the Business Studies Unit
  • actively seek external research funding
  • contribute to societal impact and international collaboration in the field
  • contribute to the implementation of the insurance science curriculum through research-based teaching and thesis supervision, including teaching on campus
  • advance collaboration with the other disciplines of the Business Studies Unit as well as with national and international stakeholders in the field

Requirements

Assistant Professor

  • applicable doctoral degree
  • ability to undertake independent scholarly activity and potential to pursue scholarly activity at a high international level of excellence
  • teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position

Associate Professor

  • applicable doctoral degree
  • track record of independent scholarly activity
  • teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position
  • ability to lead a research group and acquire external funding
  • track record of international scholarly activity

The positions of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor require good communication skills in English and Finnish or a strong motivation to learn Finnish as the degree programme is taught mainly in Finnish.

We offer

Initial appointment as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor is for five years, and subject to successful performance you will become a tenured member of faculty at the end of the first five-year period. You will be supported throughout the five-year period to ease transition to a permanent faculty position. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees. The appointee is expected to start working on 1.1.2027 or as mutually agreed. Are you passionate about teaching and excited to share your microeconomics expertise? Inspire the next generation and specialize in university education. Become a lecturer at the UvA.

The Faculty of Economics and Business (EB) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) offers world-class education in economics, fiscal economics, econometrics, actuarial science, and business administration to over 5,000 students. Home to top-tier research groups and 400 staff members, EB is internationally renowned and consists of the Amsterdam Business School and the Amsterdam School of Economics (ASE).

The Amsterdam School of Economics is among the top economics research institutes in Europe. The School has a strong focus on producing outstanding research and world-class teaching, and is highly active in international academic networks. The ASE is known for its ambitious and supportive culture with ample opportunity for personal development in an attractive international work environment.

Microeconomics is one of ASE’s four sections, covering research in experimental and political economics, human capital, and markets and organizations, while also leading microeconomics courses in FEB’s bachelor’s and master’s programs.

The Microeconomics section is now hiring a lecturer (teaching-focused) starting August 1, 2026. This position allows for a career path dedicated to academic teaching and does not allow for significant research time.

Ready to teach the next generation? Join us! This is what you will be doing.

As a lecturer, you will be responsible for teaching microeconomics courses. The academic year is structured into four six-week blocks and two three-week blocks, during which you’ll spend an average of 14-16 hours per week in the classroom.

Initially, you’ll focus on bachelor-level courses, primarily leading tutorials for subjects coordinated and taught by other faculty members. Additionally, you’ll supervise bachelor and master theses. Over time, based on performance, you may take on full course responsibility—including at the master’s level. In your first year, you will:

· Teach tutorial sessions in microeconomics courses.

· Grade exams.

· Supervise bachelor and master theses.

As you progress, your responsibilities may expand to include:

· Coordinating bachelor-level courses.

· Delivering lectures.

You will be working as a Lecturer (‘Docent’) for 32 or 38 hours per week.

The Microeconomics section is a diverse team of 50+ members, ranging from PhD candidates to full professors, each contributing their expertise and perspectives. Currently, six lecturers specialize in teaching, contributing to an environment that values and respects every member’s role in both education and research.

We foster a collaborative atmosphere, with regular team meetings and open communication with colleagues and leadership. Beyond work, informal gatherings provide opportunities to connect in a more relaxed setting.

We are seeking a motivated and passionate lecturer who wants to specialize in academic teaching. The ideal candidate:

· Has experience with and an interest in microeconomics.

· Is a team player, treating colleagues with respect and professionalism.

· Holds (or is close to completing) a PhD in Economics.

· Has university-level teaching experience; applicants with strong course evaluations are encouraged to apply.

· Is fluent in English and either fluent in Dutch or willing to learn Dutch for teaching purposes.

We offer full-time employment for the period of four years with a probationary period of two months, preferably starting from August 1, 2026, with the prospect of a permanent employment agreement.

The UFO profile Docent 4 applies to this position. This position is classified in scale 10. This means a gross monthly salary between € 3,546 and € 5,538 for full-time employment (38 hours per week), excluding holiday allowance (8%) and year-end bonus (8.3%). The salary scale depends on competences and work experience.

The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities is applicable.

The UvA has an extensive package of fringe benefits, including:

· 29 days' holiday with full employment and extra holidays between Christmas and the New Year;

· Excellent work (from home) facilities;

· Reimbursement of commuting expenses;

· Pension accrual with ABP;

· In addition, the UvA offers excellent study and development opportunities and encourages employees to continue their professional development;

HEC Paris invites applications for a full-time research faculty position (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level) in AI and Economics, with a focus on technological change and labor market transformation. The position is affiliated with the Hi! PARIS Center on Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence for Science, Business and Society (https://www.hi-paris.fr/ ).

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field and demonstrate a strong record of research excellence, with publications in leading academic journals. Successful candidates are expected to pursue high-impact research, contribute to the academic community, and provide outstanding teaching on machine learning and artificial intelligence at the graduate and executive level, with applications to economics and related fields.

Main Expertise:

Ideal candidates should have a research agenda centered on the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, technological change, and economics, with particular emphasis on understanding how AI adoption reshapes labor markets, employment structures, skill requirements, wage inequality, and productivity. Research may address the diffusion of AI technologies and their implications for firm boundaries, sectoral transformation, and economic resilience, using rigorous empirical methods such as applied econometrics and machine learning.

Other Desired Expertise:

Additional expertise in domains where AI can drive broader economic and societal impact will be considered a plus. These include the application of AI and machine learning to foster innovation and R&D productivity, address climate change through sustainable technologies and environmental economics, and promote poverty reduction and economic inclusion by improving access to jobs, education, and financial services. Research that explores policy and regulatory challenges associated with these transformations—such as fairness, bias, and labor rights—will be particularly welcome.

Besides the affiliation with the Hi! PARIS Center, the position holder will also benefit from a dynamic research environment, with privileged connections to the other research centers and institutes at HEC Paris.

About the School:

HEC Paris is one of the leading business schools in the world, with a diverse student body, representing more than 100 nationalities. HEC Paris offers degrees at all levels: an international MBA program, a PhD program, the leading French Grande Ecole program in business administration, and many specialized Masters programs. In addition, the Executive Education Center offers a variety of programs at the national and international levels. HEC Paris has been consistently ranked among the top business schools by the Financial Times. In 2025, it was ranked #2 in Europe. The Master in Management and MBA programs were ranked #2 and #9 in the world, respectively (Financial Times 2025). The TRIUM Global Executive MBA was ranked #5 globally while Executive Education remained one of the top players in Europe, continuing to hold the #2 global position in open programs—all by the Financial Times. These are just a few examples of the many HEC Paris programs that have received top international recognition. HEC Paris has one of the largest campuses in Europe. The 340-acre wooded campus is just outside of Paris and less than 15 minutes from Versailles. It is located on the Paris-Saclay plateau hosting one of the world’s largest research-education-technology hubs.

Skatteforsk – Norwegian Centre for Tax Research invites applications for up to two postdoctoral fellowships in empirical public economics. These are full-time appointments for three years with no teaching obligations, although teaching can be taken on in exchange for extending the duration of the position. The tentative start date is September 2026.

The positions will be part of ongoing and planned projects at Skatteforsk, an independent and ambitious research centre hosted by NMBU. Skatteforsk is led by Professor Annette Alstadsæter and Research Director Ron Davies, and is part of an international network that includes collaborators at leading universities and sister centres in Paris and the UK. The centre is rapidly expanding and offers an active academic environment with regular seminars, workshops, an annual conference, and international research visits.

These postdoctoral positions are linked to Skatteforsk’s recently awarded top research grant, “Building new foundations for Public Economics and Law.” We are particularly interested in applicants working on one or more of the following topics: how taxpayers avoid and evade taxation, how these actions affect the real economy, and the effectiveness of enforcement.

Successful candidates are expected to contribute to ongoing empirical research projects, develop new projects within the centre’s remit, contribute to grant applications, and participate actively in the academic environment at the centre and the School of Economics and Business.

The positions may involve access to large administrative datasets, so experience with big data or administrative data is an advantage.

Applications should include a 2–3 page research proposal related to at least one of the topics above, explaining how the applicant’s research interests align with Skatteforsk’s research profile.

Senior Research Associate (job market)

GiveWell is a research organization that identifies and funds cost-effective giving opportunities, focusing on global health and well-being. Our work is funded by thousands of donors who rely on our research to inform their giving. We’ve grown from directing $1.5 million in 2010 to directing ~$400 million in 2024.

Summary

GiveWell is seeking exceptional Senior Research Associates to help direct hundreds of millions of dollars annually to the most cost-effective global health and poverty alleviation programs. You’ll have an outsized influence on our funding decisions and help us save and improve lives on a global scale.

You’ll execute ambitious research agendas, answer complex questions, and inform high-impact grantmaking decisions by combining rigorous evidence review, cost-effectiveness modeling, and thoughtful judgment.

Senior Research Associates will have the opportunity to develop into Senior Researcher or Program Officer roles, leading research agendas or owning complex grantmaking portfolios. We’re open to a wide variety of professional development options depending on your preferences and our needs.

This job listing is currently only open to economics PhD students on the job market. If you’re curious about how this job might look different from other opportunities you’re considering on the job market, check out this short doc written by Alex Cohen (Principal Researcher; cross-cutting team lead).

The role

You’ll join a small grantmaking team to execute ambitious research agendas, sifting through the countless questions we could try to answer and honing in on those that matter most. Your decisions will inform the allocation of hundreds of millions of dollars to dozens of grantees.

Your practical work will combine empirical evidence review, cost-effectiveness modeling, discussions with subject matter experts, and developing your own judgment. In the course of your work, you might approach questions like these:

Responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing interventions (e.g., vaccine demand generation, vitamin A supplementation, seasonal malaria chemoprevention) at various levels of depth to refine our view about the cost-effectiveness of a particular intervention and recommend either deprioritization or further work. Researchers review existing empirical evidence about intervention impacts, build models, speak with subject matter experts about particular interventions, and use their judgment to come up with a bottom line. Examples of this work are available on our intervention reports page.
  • Building cost-effectiveness models to estimate the costs and benefits of a particular intervention. These models take into account a wide variety of considerations, including: one's prior estimate for an intervention's impact, the strength of the evidence, the size of the effects, the similarity between the context in which an intervention was studied and will be implemented, negative and/or offsetting effects, and how funding this intervention would affect decisions by other actors (e.g., local government, donor governments). See more on our page about our cost-effectiveness models.
  • Reviewing specific grantmaking opportunities. We receive and solicit requests for funding on an ongoing basis. Researchers investigate each of these opportunities to determine whether or not they should receive funding. Reviewers discuss each grant opportunity with the applying organization, consider its plans and assess the likelihood it will achieve them, estimate the cost-effectiveness of a grant and forecast its likelihood of success. When necessary, they solicit feedback from outside experts (e.g., academics, government officials) about the opportunity.
  • Tackle thorny research questions with creative approaches. We often need to answer questions that don’t have clear answers in published academic journals or other data sources (see some examples above), but which nevertheless matter significantly to our bottom-line funding decisions. You’ll come up with creative approaches to answer these questions, and your work will often influence the funding decisions of many of GiveWell’s research subteams.
  • Building relationships with experts relevant to our work, for example, academics who specialize in interventions we are reviewing (e.g., malaria, malnutrition treatment, in-line water chlorination), leaders and program staff at organizations we are considering for funding, and program staff at foundations who are also evaluating where to allocate funds.
  • Publishing reports and blog posts on our website. Transparency is a core value of ours and we aim to publish as much supporting information regarding our conclusions as we can. Researchers write up our findings and reasoning for publication on our website or summarize key points from their work in blog posts.

What is career development like?

After gaining experience on the team, Senior Research Associates have the opportunity to develop into Senior Researchers, who lead the development of our research agendas. Senior Researchers may then pursue a few pathways for career development based on their preferences and GiveWell’s needs. Some choose to develop wider and more autonomous research agendas as individual contributors, while others take on people management responsibilities. Another potential pathway is to transition into a Program Officer position, in which you’d own a high-impact, cost-effective grantmaking portfolios by deepening your expertise, growing your networks, and understanding the broader context within a specific grantmaking area. Program Officers think through questions like:

  • How should we balance exploring and seeding new, smaller opportunities with funding cost-effective opportunities at scale today?
  • How can we triangulate empirical evidence against expert opinion on other qualitative features, like organizational track record?
  • What is research we can fund today that could substantially impact our grantmaking five years from now?
  • How much uncertainty are we willing to accept before making a grant? What key research questions do we need to answer before making a grant, and which ones can we deprioritize or answer later?

Team structure

Our research department has over 50 people, and is currently organized into eight teams:

  • Five of the teams (Water, Livelihoods, Nutrition, Malaria, and Vaccines) focus on specific areas of grantmaking.
  • The New Areas team focuses on interventions in domains that are new to GiveWell.
  • The Cross-Cutting team focuses on methodological issues, research quality, and other big-picture concerns that cut across all of our research work.
  • The Commons team provides generalized research support to each of the other teams, including landscaping research, vetting, and publishing.

In most cases, we hire Senior Research Associates without knowing which subteam they’ll eventually sit on. We aim to expose new researchers to different types of work and parts of the team over several months to inform their eventual subteam placement. (We might settle on a subteam more quickly if new hires bring specific, specialized expertise.)

Team values

We think our research team has unique qualities:

  • We care deeply and centrally about finding and sharing truth. Truth-seeking is one of our core values. We post our mistakes and we prize our team members who keep our culture of free-flowing feedback strong.
  • We are independent. We focus 100% on finding the most cost-effective opportunities to save and improve lives. Our researchers assist in communicating our research findings to the public and our donors, and on occasion we provide tailored advice to ultra-high-net-worth donors who want to rely on our expertise to direct their giving—but we never ask our researchers to trade off against honesty, or to hide their real beliefs.
  • We don’t waste time. Once it’s clear that a particular research question is unlikely to change our bottom-line funding recommendation, we drop it as quickly as possible. We encourage our research staff to constantly re-evaluate their portfolios and only work on the highest-priority questions.
  • Lean research team = huge personal impact. Our research team of just over 50 people directs hundreds of millions of dollars annually.
  • We work well together. Our research team is lean because we’re able to attract top-tier people, all of whom complete skills-based assessments before joining our staff. We maintain a high-performing, collegial culture and pay our staff accordingly.

About you

You should be graduating with a doctoral degree in a quantitative field like economics, mathematics, or statistics. The practical work of this role is probably most aligned with the applied microeconomics subfield (think development, health, labor, or similar), but we also have successful team members from theoretical and behavioral econ backgrounds, and we’re open to applicants from all subfields.

We expect you will be characterized by many of the below qualities. We encourage you to apply if you would use the majority of these characteristics to describe yourself:

  • You are passionate about helping improve global health and alleviate global poverty as much as possible.
  • You are highly skilled at critically analyzing and synthesizing empirical research and understanding how a body of evidence may apply to real-world problems.
  • You are able to plan an efficient approach to exploring complicated questions, including identifying and focusing on the most decision-relevant aspects of a project.
  • You consider the big picture, asking questions like: Is this project appropriately formulated and the best use of my time? What is GiveWell getting wrong in our research?
  • You clearly communicate what you believe and why, as well as what you are uncertain about.
  • You ask a lot of questions, and are curious, rather than defensive, when interrogating your own or others’ work.
  • You are able to execute research that holds up under scrutiny from others and over time.
  • You are respectful, effective, and efficient in your interactions with colleagues as well as external parties.

About GiveWell

GiveWell makes grants to support cost-effective programs that save and improve lives. We focus on global health and poverty alleviation in the lowest-income parts of the world because that is where we’ve found we can have the greatest impact.

Since 2007, we’ve directed over $2.6 billion to cost-effective programs and interventions. In the last two years, we’ve directed more than $500 million to cost-effective programs. GiveWell is one of the world’s largest private funders of global development efforts, and we estimate that the funding we’ve directed will save more than 340,000 lives.

GiveWell is most well-known for recommending a small number of Top Charities, which currently support seasonal malaria chemoprevention, antimalarial nets, vaccine incentivization, and vitamin A supplementation. However, most of our research capacity is devoted to finding cost-effective opportunities outside of those programs.

Recent grants have:

We never take for granted that GiveWell’s work is good for the world. We make our reasoning public and transparent so others can challenge it (sometimes we even pay people to point out our errors). We go to unusual lengths to check our assumptions and assess our impact, including funding research and external analysis to address our uncertainties and insisting that our grantees conduct rigorous monitoring and evaluation. We change our minds when the evidence demands it.

Additional information

We don’t want to miss candidates that could do great things at GiveWell. Practically, that means a GiveWell staff member reviews every application carefully, considering the whole picture of your background and potential. If you’re on the fence about applying because you meet some but not 100% of our preferred qualifications (some studies suggest this hesitation is especially common for women and people of color), we encourage you to apply anyway.

GiveWell is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer by choice. At minimum, this means that we comply with all federal, state, and local EEO and employment laws. Beyond the requirements of those laws, we value our team’s diversity in all respects, and we desire to maintain a work environment free of harassment or discrimination—we want our team members to thrive at GiveWell. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, contact us at [email protected]. We will consider employment for qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.

By submitting an application, you acknowledge that you have read and consent to GiveWell's Privacy Statement for Applicants. By completing an application exercise, you acknowledge and assent to GiveWell's Work Trial Policy.

The Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Concordia University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Empirical Urban Economics of Transportation Electrification, an area aligned with the Volt-Age electrification research program. Duties include research, teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and service to the institution. The ideal candidate will conduct empirical research on the economics of transportation electrification, with particular interest in policy-relevant impacts on housing markets, land use, travel behaviour, equity, and/or decarbonization outcomes. Using causal identification strategies, the research is expected to examine how electrification investments interact with behavioural responses, incentives, and/or economic conditions to inform effective, equitable, and sustainable policy design.

Candidates must have completed their PhD in Economics or be near completion at the start date of the appointment. The main criteria for selection are scholarly and teaching excellence. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent potential in empirical economics, with strong skills in causal inference and applied econometric methods. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high-quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding, as well as strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions and course development at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Candidates are encouraged to share any career interruptions or personal circumstances that may have had an impact on their career goals (such as the decision to have a family, eldercare, illness, and so forth) in their letter of application. These will be carefully considered in the assessment process. The Department values diversity among its faculty and strongly encourages applications from those who will contribute to that profile. Concordia University is an English-language institution of higher learning at which the primary language of instruction and research is English. Since this position supports academic functions of the university, proficiency in English is required. Working knowledge of French, including reading and grading student work in French, is an asset.

Section for Health Data Science and AI

Department of Public Health

University of Copenhagen

We are looking for one Postdoc (4 years) and one PhD Student to join our research project “Pesticides and Human Health”. The positions are fully funded through a grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The start date for both positions is 1 September 2026.

Research project
Pesticides are widely used in agricultural production to combat unwanted insects and fungi around crops, thereby increasing output per acre. We humans are exposed to pesticides daily both through our diet and through the environment. This happens, for example, through the air we breathe.

We still lack answers pertaining to the public health consequences of indirect pesticide exposure. Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to environmental impacts, as exposure to toxic substances can be transferred to the unborn child via the placenta and thus affect the development of the fetus. This can, for example, result in the mother losing her child or the child being born with congenital malformations.

This research project will investigate whether there is a causal relationship between indirect exposure to pesticides through the air and population health. We will investigate how pesticides affect the population's fertility, pregnancy outcomes, and children's health and education.

Postdoc position

Duties and Responsibilities

As a postdoc on the project, you are expected to:

  • Develop and co-author with the other project members on research papers.
  • Participate in workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Teach and disseminate your research
